Stan Karas is a senior counsel at Capstone Law, where he focuses on the firm’s most complex and high profile matters. He works on every stage of these cases from pleading challenges to class certification proceedings to trial and appeal. Stan is an experienced trial lawyer. Among other successes, he obtained a $3 million jury verdict for a client, along with a finding that the defendant was liable for punitive damages. In another trial, the court granted non-suit in favor of Stan’s client after he delivered the opening argument. Stan has also obtained multi-million dollar settlements for his clients, including settlements that fully compensated his client for all claimed losses.
Stan started his legal career at Paul Hastings Janofsky and Walker, where he handled complex commercial and real estate litigation. Subsequently, he joined Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, where he specialized in class action and intellectual property litigation. Stan is a graduate of Stanford University, where he received a degree in History and Literature and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law at UC Berkeley. In law school, Stan served as Articles Editor of the California Law Review and Notes and Comments Editor of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal. Stan has published on class action and privacy law issues including Privacy, Identity, Databases, 52 Am. U. L. Rev. 393 (2002) and The Role of Fluid Recovery in Consumer Protection Litigation, 90 Cal. L. Rev. 959 (2002).
Stan is admitted to practice in California and before the United States District Court for the Northern, Eastern, Central, and Southern Districts of California. He is a member of the California Employment Lawyers Association (CELA), the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA) and the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA).
